경력사항 | To Whom It May Concern, My name is Christopher Ziedonis, and I am a recent graduate from the American University in Washington, DC. For the past five years, I have been working as an IT professional while completing my university education. Working in the IT field has proven to be very rewarding, but I am looking to transition to a career more relevant to life in Korea. Over the past three years, I have spent significant amounts of time in and around Seoul, travelling back and forth to DC several times a year. Thanks to my experience in Korea, my educational experience and my experience with business related project management, I believe I would be a great fit for the position you are offering teaching English as a foreign language. Additionally, I believe that I would also excel at developing English language instructional materials.
Employment at an IT company has prepared me to perform more than just a merely technical role; in the past four years of my employment I have also managed inventory, led projects, and assumed responsibility for training new employees. This includes the creation of written and pictorial training manuals. These are resources which are not dissimilar to the books, written materials and scripts used by adult learners of the English language. I have also grown skilled at breaking down complex tasks into step by step instructions suitable for walking a novice through any new material.
Educationally, my bachelor’s degree in political science focused heavily on reading and writing a wide variety of primarily academic material. My focus on the area of international relations saw me conducting research on topics related to Korea and conducting interviews with Koreans. I understand how many Korean ESL learners speak, and I believe that this knowledge would be helpful in instructing even young learners. This means that I also have experience understanding and editing material written by Korean ESL speakers, a skill which would no doubt prove useful in this position.
I also have experience with Korean children, having known several in private life. Some of my family’s close friends are Korean immigrants to the US, and their children grew up around me learning both English and Korean. I enjoyed helping with their kids, playing and teaching them, and enjoy keeping a positive and friendly attitude while working with even very energetic children.
Finally, I was born and raised in the Northeastern United States. I speak standard English, without a strong regional accent. My voice and annunciation would therefore be quite suitable for voice acting. Having spoken to many Koreans and Mainland Chinese in the course of my education, I understand what words, phrases and tones of voice an ESL speaker is likely to understand, as well as vocabulary they would likely need to know and how to teach it to them. I believe my education, technical skills and organizational experience would make me a strong fit for this position. I eagerly await your reply to my application.
