As a Native English Speaker, English has been part of my life since birth. However, I came from a family that used a dialect of English and it caused me to become very interested in the language itself. English has various dialects and accents and due to my family, I became obsessed with learning more about it. As a child, I always loved reading and writing stories. As a teenager, I found refuge in the many literary works I read in my advanced placement classes. As a university student, I felt comfort knowing that I could always rely on my English classes to present me with a worthy challenge. As a graduate student, I found myself falling in love with English education and learning more than I ever had despite being a native English speaker.
Even when I wavered, I always found my way back to English. I have chosen teaching English as my occupation through my graduate school program. As a teacher with over 10 years of experience, I still find myself craving more challenges and seeking more opportunities to teach English at the highest level possible. I have taught elementary school, middle school and high school students. I have taught students with special needs and I have taught students with impressive learning abilities. At times, I taught phonics and at other times, I led discussion classes on difficult subject matters. I have worked alone and I have taught classes with multiple cooperating teachers. I am fully capable of working alone but I am always available as a team player in a group setting. I truly believe that teaching is a large part of who I am so I am constantly motivated to reflect, improve and take on new challenges as an educator. I applied for this position because I believe that a motivation to educate students at the highest level possible is shared.
